Branch-off Clips

Branch-off clips designed to support cable branching transitions and enhance sealing performance at breakout areas in cable jointing and termination systems — providing the mechanical framework for wraparound sleeve installations at T-joint and multi-way branch configurations.

Mechanical Support for Branch-off and T-Joint Cable Systems

Branch-off clips are moulded structural accessories installed at cable branch and T-joint locations to hold cables in a defined geometric arrangement and create a consistent, sealed transition surface for wraparound heat shrink sleeves. Without a clip, cables at a branch point lack the dimensional stability required for the wraparound sleeve to conform and seal correctly — gaps and voids at the sleeve interface compromise the sealing integrity of the joint.

Available in 2-way and 4-way configurations, branch-off clips are selected to match the number of cables leaving the branch point. The clip body is sized to span the cable arrangement and is installed before the wraparound sleeve is applied — forming the mechanical backbone of the branch joint assembly. The result is a dimensionally consistent, mechanically stable joint that allows the heat shrink sleeve to seal correctly over the branch transition.

Why Branch-off Clips Are Specified

Providing the dimensional stability and mechanical support that allow wraparound sleeve systems to seal reliably at branch and T-joint locations.

Defined Cable Branching Geometry

Holds cables in a fixed, defined arrangement at the branch point — ensuring consistent geometry across the joint zone so that the wraparound sleeve can recover uniformly without voids, gaps, or irregular contact at the cable interfaces.

Enhanced Sealing Performance

By providing a dimensionally stable surface for the wraparound sleeve to seal against, the clip eliminates the irregular cable geometry that causes sealing voids — directly improving the moisture and environmental sealing performance of the completed joint assembly.

Consistent Installation Results

Standardises the branch joint preparation — reducing variability between installers and installations. The clip establishes the correct cable spacing and transition geometry before the sleeve is applied, making the outcome less dependent on individual installation technique.

Mechanical Stability at the Joint

Provides structural rigidity across the branch transition — restraining cable movement within the joint zone and reducing mechanical stress on the heat shrink sleeve from cable flexure, vibration, or post-installation handling.

Compatible with Wraparound Sleeve Systems

Designed to be used as part of a complete wraparound sleeve jointing system — the clip dimensions and profile are matched to standard wraparound sleeve widths and recovery temperatures to ensure compatibility across the branch joint assembly.

Simple Mechanical Assembly

No adhesive or heat required for clip installation — the clip assembles mechanically over the cable arrangement and is ready for sleeve application immediately. Reduces installation time and requires no specialist tooling beyond cable preparation equipment.

Where Branch-off Clips Are Used

Installed wherever wraparound heat shrink sleeves are used at branch and T-joint configurations in LV and MV cable systems.

01

T-Joint Cable Connections

2-way clips used at T-joint locations where a branch cable leaves a main cable run — providing the branch geometry support required for the wraparound sleeve to seal correctly over the three-cable transition.

02

Multi-Way Branch Joints

4-way clips used at cross-branch or multi-distribution points where four cables meet at a single joint location — maintaining cable spacing and sleeve sealing geometry across the full branch arrangement.

03

Cable Jointing Systems

Integrated as a component of wraparound sleeve cable jointing systems — specified alongside the sleeve as part of the joint kit to ensure a complete, dimensionally stable branch joint assembly at the installation location.

04

Underground Distribution Networks

Branch joints in LV underground distribution cable systems — direct-buried and duct-installed configurations where consistent sealing performance and dimensional stability at the joint are long-term performance requirements.

05

Utility and DISCOM Installations

Supplied as part of cable accessory jointing kits for utility and DISCOM distribution network branch joints — providing a standardised, specified clip component across LV cable distribution jointing programmes.

06

Industrial and EPC Projects

Branch joint assemblies on industrial facility cable systems and EPC infrastructure projects — where cable distribution branch points require sealed, mechanically stable joints as part of the overall cable installation specification.

How to Select the Right Branch-off Clip

Four parameters determine the correct clip configuration and size. Confirm each before specifying alongside the wraparound sleeve system.

  1. 01

    Branch Configuration — 2-Way or 4-Way

Determine the number of cables at the branch joint. A 2-way clip is used for T-joint configurations where one branch cable leaves a main cable run — three cable ends total at the joint. A 4-way clip is used where four cables meet at a single branch point. The configuration cannot be substituted — a 2-way clip does not accommodate the cable geometry of a 4-way branch.

  2. 02

    Cable Outer Diameters

Measure the outer diameter of each cable at the branch joint location. For T-joints, provide both the main cable and branch cable outer diameters — they may differ. The clip must accommodate the actual cable sizes at the joint. Provide all cable outer diameters when requesting a clip recommendation or placing an order.

  3. 03

    Wraparound Sleeve Compatibility

The clip must be compatible with the wraparound sleeve specified for the joint — both in terms of physical dimensions and the thermal characteristics of the sleeve installation process. Where both the clip and sleeve are being selected together, specify them as a matched system. If a specific wraparound sleeve is already specified, confirm clip compatibility with our technical team before ordering.

  4. 04

    Installation Environment

Branch-off clips are suitable for indoor, outdoor, and underground applications. For direct-buried joints, confirm that the clip material is rated for the soil contact and ground moisture conditions at the installation location. For above-ground or aerial branch joints, confirm that the clip assembly provides adequate mechanical restraint for the cable configuration under wind and thermal movement loads.

Branch-off clips should always be specified together with the wraparound sleeve as part of a complete branch joint system. Contact our technical team if cable diameters or branch configurations fall outside the standard range.
