Wraparound Sleeves
Heat-shrinkable sealing and protection systems applied directly over installed cables — without disconnection. Used in sheath repair, joint rejacketing, and environmental sealing across power, telecom, and railway infrastructure.
Applied Over the Cable. No End Access Needed.
Wraparound sleeves are heat-shrinkable sealing systems applied longitudinally over installed cables — without disconnection or end access. The sleeve wraps around the cable, is secured by a channel closure strip, and shrinks under heat to form a tight, continuous jacket.
A hot melt adhesive inner lining activates during shrinking, sealing against the cable surface to provide environmental protection and mechanical integrity in a single operation. Used for sheath repair, joint rejacketing, and retrofit protection across power, telecom, and railway infrastructure.
Why Wraparound Sleeves Are Specified
Engineered for real-world installation constraints — delivering reliable protection where conventional methods are impractical or not viable.
Environmental Sealing
Dual-layer construction with hot melt adhesive provides continuous, watertight sealing against moisture, dust, and chemical ingress — suitable for outdoor, underground, and harsh environment installation.
Strong Mechanical Closure
Channel closure system secures the sleeve overlap before and during heat application — maintaining alignment and ensuring a consistent, structurally sound seal along the full sleeve length.
Long-Term Reliability
Manufactured from virgin polyolefin compounds — no recycled material. UV-stabilised and weather-resistant outer layer ensures consistent performance over extended service periods in outdoor applications.
Field-Friendly Installation
Standard heat gun application with no specialist tooling required. Simple procedure delivers consistent, repeatable results in the field under varied working conditions.
Adaptable to Cable Diameter
Available in a range of sizes and recoverable diameters. Length can be cut to suit repair extent — reducing waste and allowing precise coverage for mid-span and transition applications.
Repair and Retrofit Ready
Re-enterable design allows for inspection, re-sealing, or removal without destructive cutting. Suited to ageing infrastructure, emergency repair, and installations requiring future access.
Available Configurations
Two grades engineered for different performance and environmental demands — select the configuration suited to your application.

Where Wraparound Sleeves Are Used
Deployed across critical infrastructure sectors where cable access constraints, live networks, or retrofit requirements demand a no-disconnection sealing solution.
Cable Sheath Repair
Mid-span repair of damaged cable sheaths without excavating additional cable length or disconnecting from the network. Suitable for emergency and planned maintenance operations.
Joint Rejacketing
Protective overjacketing of existing cable joints — providing a continuous sealed outer layer over the joint body and cable transition zones.
Telecom Cable Protection
Environmental sealing and mechanical protection for underground and aerial telecom cables at joints, repairs, and transition points across fibre and copper infrastructure.
Railway Signalling Cables
RDSO-approved configurations for signalling cable protection across Indian Railways trackside installations where reliability and regulatory compliance are mandatory requirements.
Corrosion and Outdoor Protection
UV-stabilised outer layer provides long-term protection in outdoor, above-ground, and corrosive environments — including coastal and industrial locations.
Infrastructure and Industrial
Cable protection in power distribution networks, defence installations, EPC project sites, and industrial facilities where long service life and environmental sealing are non-negotiable requirements.
How to Select the Right Sleeve
The correct wraparound sleeve is determined by cable geometry, installation environment, and the performance standard required. Use the criteria below to narrow your selection, then contact our technical team to confirm the right product for your project.
-
01
Cable Outer Diameter (OD)
The recovered internal diameter of the sleeve must be smaller than the cable OD to ensure a tight, sealed fit. Specify the cable OD (or OD range if covering a joint transition) when requesting product options.
-
02
Repair or Coverage Length
Sleeve length should extend a minimum of 50–75mm beyond the damaged or exposed area on each side. Confirm the total repair length to select the appropriate stock length or specify a custom cut length.
-
03
Indoor or Outdoor Installation
Both standard and reinforced grades include UV-stabilised material for outdoor use. For direct burial or chemically exposed environments, confirm the expected exposure conditions so the appropriate material grade can be specified.
-
04
Standard or Reinforced Grade
Standard grade is suitable for most telecom, LV power, and general infrastructure applications. Reinforced grade is specified for railway, defence, high-load, or vibration-prone installations where enhanced mechanical strength is required.
-
05
Regulatory or Approval Requirement
For Indian Railways supply, RDSO-approved configurations must be specified and documentation verified. For utility or government procurement, ISO-certified supply with full documentation is available.

Technical Questions
Common questions on wraparound sleeve specification, installation, and performance.
Yes. Wraparound sleeves are specifically designed for installation over cables that cannot be disconnected or accessed at their ends. The longitudinal application method means no end access is required. Standard heat gun shrinking does not introduce harmful temperatures to the cable beneath, but care should always be taken and site safety procedures followed when working near energised infrastructure.
The standard grade provides proven environmental sealing and protection performance for most telecom, LV power, and general utility applications. The reinforced grade features a thicker outer layer with higher wall thickness and tensile strength — designed for railway, defence, or high-load environments where the cable is exposed to mechanical stress, vibration, or backfill pressure after installation.
The key dimension is the cable outer diameter (OD), or the maximum OD across the joint transition if the sleeve is being applied over a joint body. The sleeve's recovered internal diameter must be equal to or smaller than the cable OD to produce a tight, sealed fit. Contact our team with the cable OD and we will confirm the correct sleeve size from our available range.
Yes. Wraparound sleeves can be removed and replaced without destroying the cable beneath. The channel closure can be released, allowing the sleeve to be peeled back for inspection or replacement. Re-shrinking after re-closure is possible but a new sleeve is generally recommended to maintain sealing integrity after re-entry.
Western Cablex is ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certified. Reinforced grade wraparound sleeves are available in RDSO-approved configurations for Indian Railways procurement. CPRI type-testing documentation is available for applicable configurations. Full approval documentation can be provided for utility and government procurement on request.
Wraparound sleeves have a shelf life of 5 years from the date of manufacture when stored correctly — in a cool, dry location, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and kept in original packaging. Installed service life depends on the installation environment but the UV-stabilised material is designed for extended outdoor service periods. Contact us for application-specific performance data.
How the Sleeve Is Built
Each wraparound sleeve is an engineered sealing system — not a single-layer jacket. The material, lining compound, and closure mechanism work together to deliver consistent, repeatable performance across different cable types and installation conditions.
Heat-Shrinkable Outer Layer
Cross-linked polyolefin outer with a defined shrink ratio — delivers a uniform, tight-fitting jacket over the cable profile when heat is applied.
Hot Melt Adhesive Lining
Thermoplastic adhesive inner activates at shrink temperature, flowing into surface irregularities and voids to create a continuous, watertight seal.
Channel Closure System
Mechanical channel strip secures the sleeve overlap before and during heat application — ensuring seal alignment is maintained along the full sleeve length.
UV and Weather Resistance
UV-stabilised compound prevents material degradation in outdoor and above-ground applications — suitable for direct sunlight exposure over extended service periods.
Virgin Raw Materials
Manufactured using virgin polyolefin compounds with no recycled content — ensuring consistent shrink performance, dimensional accuracy, and long-term seal integrity.
Reinforced Outer (Grade R)
Heavier outer wall for increased abrasion resistance and impact protection after installation. Specified for railway, defence, and high-load environments.
