Mastic Tapes
Engineered mastic-based tapes designed for stress control, environmental sealing, and insulation support in cable jointing and termination systems.
Mastic Tapes in Cable Accessory Systems
Mastic tapes are hand-applied compounds supplied in roll form for use during cable joint and termination assembly. No heat source is required — they conform under hand pressure, filling voids and sealing irregular surfaces at connector shoulders, screen cut-backs, and crutch areas.
Western Cablex supplies three formulations: Stress Control Mastic for electrical stress grading at screen transitions, Anti-Tracking Mastic for surface tracking resistance in outdoor environments, and Black Mastic for void filling and moisture sealing across LV and MV applications.
- Variants Stress Control, Anti-Tracking, Black Mastic
- Application method Hand-wrapped
- Heat required No
- Systems LV & MV joints & terminations
- Functions Stress control, anti-tracking, sealing
- Form factor Roll — self-amalgamating strip
Three Mastic Formulations
Each formulation addresses a distinct functional requirement in cable accessory assembly. Select the correct mastic based on the electrical and environmental demands of the installation.
Stress Control Mastic
Semiconductive mastic compound for electrical stress grading at conductor screen cut-back points in medium-voltage cable joints and terminations. Redistributes electric field concentration to prevent premature insulation failure at screen transitions.
- Screen cut-back management in MV joints
- Connector and lug stress grading zones
- Insulation screen step relief in MV terminations
Anti-Tracking Mastic
Anti-tracking compound formulated to suppress surface tracking at outdoor cable terminations and exposed accessories. Maintains surface resistivity under combined electrical stress, moisture, and pollution conditions — critical for long-term outdoor termination integrity.
- Outdoor MV termination wrapping
- High contamination environments (coastal, industrial)
- Exposed bushing and lug interface protection
Black Mastic
General-purpose black mastic for void filling, moisture exclusion, and sealing at cable joint entry points, connectors, and irregular cable surface profiles. Flows under hand pressure to fill gaps without air pockets, forming a continuous void-free moisture barrier.
- Void filling in joint and termination assemblies
- Moisture protection at connector and lug interfaces
- Sealing irregular cable entry and crutch geometries

Where Mastic Tapes Are Used
Applied across LV and MV cable systems wherever void filling, stress control, surface protection, or moisture exclusion is required during jointing or termination assembly.
Cable Jointing Systems
SCM and BSM applied at screen cut-back points and connector zones during MV and LV joint assembly to manage electrical stress and seal voids.
Cable Terminations
ATM and SCM used in outdoor and indoor MV terminations for stress grading and surface protection at exposed insulation and screen interfaces.
Stress Control Zones
SCM applied at insulation screen cut-backs to redistribute electric field concentration and prevent partial discharge in medium-voltage systems.
Outdoor Installations
ATM provides surface tracking resistance on exposed terminations subject to UV radiation, industrial pollution, coastal salt, and weather cycling.
Environmental Sealing
BSM fills annular gaps, connector shoulders, and irregular cable profiles to form moisture barriers in direct-buried, ducted, and indoor installations.
MV & LV Networks
All three mastics used across power distribution, telecom, and railway cable accessory systems where jointing and termination integrity is a specification requirement.
Why Engineers Specify Western Cablex Mastics
Performance characteristics that make a measurable difference in cable accessory system reliability and installation consistency.
Stress Control Reliability
SCM delivers consistent semiconductive grading at screen transitions, maintaining predictable resistivity across the operating temperature range and throughout the installed service life of the cable accessory.
Anti-Tracking Performance
ATM suppresses surface carbonisation on outdoor terminations exposed to pollution and moisture — maintaining dielectric surface integrity without secondary protective measures.
Sealing Effectiveness
BSM flows under hand pressure to fill voids and irregular profiles completely — forming a continuous, void-free moisture barrier without secondary adhesive or sealant application.
System Compatibility
All three mastics are engineered for compatibility with heat-shrinkable tubing, cold-applied accessories, and moulded components — usable within complete Western Cablex jointing and termination systems.
Installation Consistency
Hand-applied without heat or specialist tooling — achievable by trained field technicians under standard jointing workshop conditions, with no equipment dependence or tool calibration requirement.
